Pa. launches drug price information Web site
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell announced the launch of a new Web site on Tuesday that lets consumers search for the lowest price on more than 300 widely used prescription drugs.
Rendell said the site, www.parxpricefinder.com, is one of his economic recovery and relief initiatives aimed at helping families through the tough economy. Pennsylvania joins 11 other states in offering the resource.
"Prescription costs can take a huge bite out of a family's tight budget, a bite that can be especially painful during trying economic times," Rendell said. "It isn't uncommon to be able to save between $20 and $100, and sometimes much more, by simply checking prices through this Web site."
Users of the site will enter their town or zip code and the distance they are willing to travel for a prescription, which is entered by providing the full name or just the first letter if the correct spelling is not known. The prescription drug prices shown are based on those provided to the state and are updated weekly. The site also contains links for finding online pharmacies and independent information about drugs and other price information. (Philadelphia Business Journal, March 11, 2009.)
